Customers are advised that there are a number of email crypto-lock scams targeting individuals and businesses.
Some of these emails look like legitimate notifications from Australia Post notifying customers to collect parcels. Others look like court summons from the Australian Federal Police.
In all cases I have seen so far, there have been unnessasary file attachments to the email, which if clicked on would download a virus to your device/computer. It is known that hacker/extortionists are using crypto-lock software which disables the victim's computer - this means all the files on the computer become encrypted and unusable until a ransom is paid and a key (password) is provided (if they feel like it).
If you didn't order something.. then there is no parcel waiting for you at the post office.
